Lars Brings The Real Girl To DVD

Conceptually, Lars and the Real Girl sounded like a joke to me. A movie about a guy who is having a love affair with a life-sized doll? Sounds like something the Farrelly brothers would cook up as their next project. Instead, Lars turned out to be one of the year’s most acclaimed dramas, garning even more attention for actor Ryan Gosling.

Since the movie was a smaller release, not many people got the chance to check out Lars and the Real Girl, but now there’s a second chance as MGM releases the movie to DVD on April 15th.

The announced DVD is a bit low on extras, but that’s not surprising given the small scale of the movie. I’m a bit surprised at the lack of a commentary track (an easy target for any DVD critic), but at least there are two featurettes (“Just Like All the Other Actors” and “The Real Story of Lars and the Real Girl”) and a deleted scene (titled “Bathtub”).

Check out Ryan Gosling, Emily Mortimer, Paul Schneider, and Patricia Clarkson in Lars and the Real Girl on DVD, April 15th.
