Pick Of The Week: Classic Pink Panther

There are a lot of potentially good releases this week, from the comic book geekdom of Hulk Vs. which pits the green goliath against Wolverine and Thor, to the comedic genius of Sam Kinison in Sam Kinison: Unleashed. Also of note is Lakeview Terrace, Samuel L. Jackson’s remake of Unlawful Entry. What? It wasn’t a remake? Could have fooled me…

All of those look promising, but I have to pick more of a classic this week with a collector’s edition re-release of The Pink Panther series. Even though the movies have been out on DVD before, they are classics that go overlooked far too frequently. With Steve Martin turning the title into a travesty, I think it’s important for moviephiles to go back and see why Peter Sellers was a master of comedy, and why Martin never should have been allowed to touch the title of Pink Panther.

The six Pink Panther movies are being released individually and in a collection set, but the real excuse for this release is that The Pink Panther is coming to high definition with a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray release. If you ask me, this is a must-have for any decent movie collection. If you don’t believe me and prefer the Steve Martin flicks, you should still give it a chance - the releases include movie money good toward the ticket price of Martin’s Pink Panther 2, although those slips of paper will be used as litter box liner in my household.
