Considering Lymelife only made it to about 30 theaters, odds are, you didn’t see it. Lucky for you, Screen Media Films is bringing this family dramedy to DVD and Blu-ray on September 22nd. At just $27.98 for the DVD and $29.98 for the Blu-ray, Lymelife is well worth buying.
The film explores what happens when a town is overwhelmed with fear after a resident, Charlie Bragg (Timothy Hutton), is diagnosed with Lyme disease. The ailment keeps Charlie out of work, so his wife, Brenda (Cynthia Nixon), takes it upon herself to maintain the family income. She accepts a job offer from her neighbor, Mickey (Alex Baldwin), but there’s much more to their relationship than real estate and some extra cash. Meanwhile, Mickey’s wife (Jill Hennessy) is busy duct-taping her son Scott’s (Rory Culkin) clothes to his body, fearing he’ll contract the disease. Scott’s high-strung mother is the least of his worries; he’s completely enamored with the Bragg’s daughter, Adrianna (Emma Roberts). Then there’s Scott’s older brother (Kieran Culkin), who is home on leave from the army and can’t help but to reignite tensions with his father. Lymelife is a sensitive yet humorous film that just about anyone can enjoy.
Both the DVD and BD come with a modest selection of bonus material. There are deleted scenes, an alternate ending, and director commentary. The commentary should be especially interesting considering this project is more than just any old film to Derick Martini; it’s based on his true childhood experiences.
