Resident Evil Creator Discusses Zwei

Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami recently unveiled his next game in the form of survival horror title codenamed Zwei. He's further commented on the project following its official announcement.

"A true ‘survival horror’ game is one in which the player confronts and overcomes fear. I've found my focus and once again I'm striving for pure survival horror. I am being very hands-on in the development of this game to ensure that the quality is there. Rest assured," said Shinji Mikami, president and creative director of developer Tango Gameworks.

"At present, we’ve at last cleared the initial phase. Regarding art creation, we’re already getting a very good atmosphere. We’re extremely confident about the graphics this time," Mikami told Famitsu (via Andriasang). "Of course, we can’t recreate the same quality as shown in these image boards, but we can deliver game screens with atmosphere that is close to this. There are still mountains of inadequate areas, though, so we’ll have to work with the designers on brushing these up."

Famitsu asked Mikami what survival horror means to him. According to the Resident Evil creator, it doesn't depend on just scaring the player, but what the name of "survival horror" actually suggests.

Touching on the codename of Zwei, Mikami stated it means "2" in German, but it doesn't bear any significance with the title's content. "It just sounds cool." The game itself, meanwhile, will most likely release on HD consoles, confirmed Mikami when he initially revealed the project in 2010.
