Gun Media and Illfonic Studios finally managed to get their Friday The 13th: The Game up and out for PC, Xbox One and PS4. The multiplayer-only portion of the game has run into some problems when it comes to connectivity and stability.
Over on their official Twitter account, they announced that the servers got hammered from everyone who wanted to log on and play the game during its launch this weekend. This issue resulted in a data failure for a lot of gamers, and Illfonic had to restart the servers in an attempt to flush the users and try again.
However, there was still way too much traffic as a bunch of people tried getting online to play Friday The 13th: The Game, but all to no avail.
They later quipped that it was a funny problem to have that their servers were ill-equipped for taking on so many people eager and willing to put in time with their crowd-funded take on the classic horror movie series.
Gamespot is reporting that the Steam forums and Reddit flooded with feedback from people who had problems getting into the game, or even getting their game to activate.
The Kickstarter update bullet points each of the issues affecting the different platforms, this includes the PS4 North American DLC codes showing up as inactive. The team noted that they're awaiting word from Sony to review a patch so they can get this issue addressed.
They noted that not all of the Xbox One digital game codes have been delivered and they are working on getting these codes out as soon as possible to backers of Friday The 13th: The Game.
A few PS4 backers in Australia and certain parts of Europe have also not received their digital codes, and this is due to the developers not having the codes in their possession at the moment, but they say they're going to be sending them out as soon as they come in.
Some Steam users also state that the Savini Jason Skin DLC wasn't appearing for them, and they say Illfonic is looking into the issue and the DLC costumes and skins are attached to your account and should appear after the next hotfix patch arrives.
The rest of the post addresses the fact that their dedicated servers are being absolutely slammed, and they're purchasing more servers to handle the amount of traffic and usage they're receiving from gamers interested in playing Friday The 13th: The Game. They're also upgrading the servers to deal with all of the profile database overloading they experienced during the launch of the game.
Some gamers were angry that Illfonic didn't better prepare for the amount of players interested in the game, but they're a pretty small studio and paying for more servers than the amount of people actually playing Friday The 13th: The Game could skyrocket their operating costs. They likely didn't expect to get hammered as badly as they did given that they haven't had a traditional marketing campaign, and have had to rely on word of mouth and beta test footage spread from YouTubers and enthusiast media to get the word out.
Apparently word got out more than they anticipated, and a bunch of people are now checking the game out.
