Dead Or Alive 6 Announces Two New Characters
With EVO weekend in full swing, we're seeing lots of new content being announced, confirmed, and revealed from within the fighting game community, especially from some of the other fighting game franchises that aren't Tekken, Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. Just underneath the top tier of those fighters is Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja's 3D fighter Dead or Alive series, and it's coming back with Dead or Alive 6 for home consoles and PC. After recently announcing Dead or Alive 6 and having a small showcase of the game on display at this past year's E3 in Los Angeles, California, Team Ninja brought the game to EVO to unveil two new characters who have joined the ever-expanding roster.
The two characters include Rig and Diego, both are male fighters who will help flesh out the roster. Diego is making his debut for the very first time in Team Ninja's Dead or Alive series. He's nicknamed "The Uncrowned Street Hero", and his background sees him coming from the gritty streets and back alleys of New York City to earn money as a street fighter to help his ailing mother. In his local neighborhood he's considered the strongest and baddest fighter on the block, but he decides to step outside of his comfort zone in order to fight bigger and tougher opponents in order to earn money for his mother.
Diego quickly becomes rivals with a returning Dead or Alive character named Rig, who is a taekwondo expert nicknamed the "Kicks of Truth and Deceit". Rig first made his debut in the vanilla version of Dead or Alive 5, and has come back to challenge old foes and make new rivals.
Both of the characters were introduced with a new Dead or Alive 6 trailer that was released, giving gamers a very brief look at how the two contrasting styles match-up in the arena. You can check out the video below featuring the two characters via GameSpot.
The trailer is only a minute and a half long, but it gives you decent look at Diego's strong-style inspired fighting moves, and some of Rig's smooth kick combos.
Obviously you can draw comparisons to other characters from other games for both characters, including Diego being very similar to Miguel from Tekken and Rig being very similar to Hwaorang from Tekken.
Dead or Alive has always lived in the shadow of Tekken, so most fans of Bandai Namco's series will likely also spot the similarities between the four characters from both franchises.
