E3 2014: LittleBigPlanet 3 Coming To PS4 In November

We were all expecting Sony to drop megatons at E3 this year during their live stage conference for E3. What no one probably expected was to see a bomb drop in the form of LittleBigPlanet 3, the third outing in the highly lauded PlayStation platforming exclusive.

The team at Media Molecule came on stage to announce that LittleBigPlanet 3 is scheduled to arrive this fall, exclusively for the PlayStation 4. To be more exact, the game will arrive in November.

The info was revealed courtesy of a gameplay demonstration that Sony let loose on stage. It was also one of those honest demonstrations, not one of those CG-laden fake-fests that have permeated the E3 space for so long -cough- Watch Dogs at E3 2012 -cough- check it out below.

This is all pretty cool and I love the new features here, including the new depth-of-level mechanics that allow players to move into and out of various levels. This means players can now create brand new kinds of multi-tiered levels in parallax planes. It reminds me a lot of Sierra's old Huner Hunted.

In addition to that, as you can see in the trailer above, there are three brand new characters to control, including the flying bird that can pick up and fly players around like Tails from Sonic 3.

The new blubbery character who can grow and shrink in size opens up a ton of new opportunities for players, especially when it comes to designing non-traditional side-scrolling levels. Well, even more than that, there are all kinds of other ways to interact with LBP3 including mini-games players can create that range from a number of different genres.

Even more than that the game will allow for backwards compatibility with LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet2, enabling players to download – on day one – all the current levels made in the previously released PS3 titles on the PS4 exclusive.

That's right, there are 8.7 million levels available in LBP and LBP2 and all of them will be available in LittleBigPlanet 3.

That's a pretty significant thing right there, as it means that right from the start players will have a nearly infinite amount of replayable options made available for anyone who decides to pick up the game day-one.

You can check out another quick trailer of LittleBigPlanet 3 below.

As mentioned, you can look for the game to launch this November, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
