Last summer, a trademark was filed for The Lord of the Rings: War in the North. Today, Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment revealed that it's the name of a PC, PS3, Xbox 360 video game being developed by Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance outfit Snowblind Studios.

War in the North is a "mature" action RPG set in Middle-Earth. Players take part in the War of the Ring and battle Sauron's fierce army. It's said to have online co-op for up to three players, allowing you to form your own little fellowship. "Extensive character customization and development" as well as "upgradeable weapons, skills and special abilities" are promised as well.

Currently War in the North is slated for a 2011 release. This will be the second LOTR game published by Warner Bros. since acquiring the license from EA last year. The first, Aragorn's Quest, is due in Fall 2010.
