Trion Worlds has launched their fantasy MMORPG Rift in North America today. It's set to hit Australia on Wednesday, pan-European countries on Thursday, and finally the UK on Friday.
Rift takes place on Telara, a planet under siege. Monsters invade through rifts throughout the world and it's up to players to slay these intruders and close the rifts. If unopposed, the monsters will effectively take over an area and make players' lives quite unpleasant there.
One of the most notable features of Rift is the deep character customization system. Upon creating your character, you're asked to pick one of four callings: rogue, mage, warrior, and cleric. However, within each calling are nine "souls" - essentially, specializations. You choose three souls and then distribute points within them as desired.
The Standard Edition, Digital Collector’s Edition, and Retail Collector’s Edition of Rift cost $49.99, $59.99 and $79.99 respectively. The monthly subscription rate is $14.99. Purchasing a multiple-month subscription will get you a reduced rate.
