This 80's Action Legend Wants To Play Cable In Deadpool 2

The race to cast Deadpool 2's Cable is one that you're going to want to keep an eye on over the next year or so. With Stephen Lang, Jon Hamm, and, naturally, Keira Knightley all in the running, it's going to get quite competitive. Of course, a new candidate as emerged, asking the big question: does Dolph Lundgren stand a chance against the competition trying to snag the role?

You can thank The Nerdist for the good news, as they recently interviewed Lundgren on camera, and asked the first man to play The Punisher if he'd ever want to return to making Marvel films. Dolph Lundgren then said that he'd heard the role of Nathan "Cable" Summers was open, which lead to his interviewer asking if he'd be up for the gig. Lundgren's humble, but obviously eager, response was the following:

Well.. I guess I could kick some butt doing that, I suppose.

Further bolstering his case to be cast as the son of X-Men member Scott "Cyclops" Summers, Dolph Lundgren cited that Cable kind of looked like Ivan Drago from Rocky IV and Gunner Jensen from The Expendables movies. So Lundgren or his agent had obviously practiced this pitch before the Nerdist interview, and we have to be thankful for that, as his candidacy to play Cable is right up there with the previous favorite for the role, Avatar's Stephen Lang. Now if only we could include a time travel component, and have both men play the same role in different time spans.

Lundgren

Deadpool 2 is still in the uber-early stages of development, considering the Merc with the Mouth was only in theaters three months ago, and has currently hit Blu-Ray and DVD. So it's really anyone's guess who the leader of this horse race truly is, and we're sticking to our guns and saying that Dolph Lundgren has jumped to the top, if not the top 5, in the rankings. With Deadpool already showing some 80's action influences in its first film, to fully lean into them with the casting of Lundgren is too cool an opportunity not to look into.

Deadpool 2 is still in development, with Deadpool now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
