Anthony Mackie Wants To Accompany This Fellow Avenger Into Their Solo Movie

Fans have been asking for a Black Widow movie for some time now. She’s been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since Iron Man 2, but people didn’t see the potential for a solo film until at least The Avengers, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier cementing her badassery for audiences worldwide. While everyone from camp Marvel have stated they want to make a Black Widow, movie nothing seems to have really moved forward. Even stars of the MCU want to see a Black Widow movie happen and, in Anthony Mackie’s case, act in it as well.

Anthony Mackie, who plays Steve Roger’s wingman and fellow Avenger Falcon, spoke with Hit Fix about his role as Martin Luther King Jr. in HBO’s All the Way. Of course, any superhero actor doesn’t get away without answering at least one MCU question, so the conversation eventually turned to what Mackie thought about a Black Widow movie.

Well, I think Black Widow needs a little bit of aerial support! I would love, in any capacity, to be a part of that. I’ve always been a huge fan of Scarlett’s, and I’ve always, since I met her, just really admired her as a person. So in whatever capacity I would be used — Falcon would fly for Black Widow.

Falcon in a Black Widow movie sounds awesome. He’s usually a character that works better with others, rather than on his own. Sam Wilson is such a solid dude that he doesn’t really have his own issues; he’s best when helping others. So him teaming with Natasha, who’s the patron saint of past baggage, makes total sense. Anthony Mackie goes on to say that he feels the movie would be “more of a spy espionage-type movie” with Black Widow as sort of a female James Bond. I would very much like to see that movie.

The potential for a Black Widow movie seems to be a lot higher these days. Kevin Feige recently said she’d make for a great solo franchise and that the Marvel folks are talking about making it happen. Phase 3 is pretty jam packed with movies that have really exciting casts (looking at you Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther), so it doesn’t seem like there’s any room in the schedule for a Black Widow spinoff. Phase 4 seems like the easiest place to put her, but there is also a vacant spot on the schedule thanks to the removal of Inhumans.

A Black Widow/ Falcon team-up has lots of potential. Throw a little Hawkeye into the mix, and you’ve got yourself a cool looking movie. I also think Bucky would be pretty awesome, depending on where he is in the MCU at that point.

Do you think Falcon would make a good fit in a Black Widow movie? Who else would you like to see pop up in her potential spinoff? Sound off in the comments section below.
