Beautiful Creatures Behind-The-Scenes Featurette Focuses On Casters

Headed into theaters early next year is the feature adaptation of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's young adult fantasy novel Beautiful Creatures. We've already seen a trailer for the film, which stars Alden Ehrenreich and Alice Englert as teens Ethan and Lena, and today comes a featurette that explores the story and gives us a better idea of the world in which this story is set and the "casters" featured, Lena and Emmy Rossum's Ridley among them.

Directed by Richard LaGravenese, Beautiful Creatures will tell the story of Lena and Ethan, two teens living in the south who fall for one another. But there's a major supernatural twist in this love story, as Lena is a "caster," whose powers will be claimed for either Light or Dark when she turns sixteen. MTV shared the featurette below, which explores the subject of "casters" and delves a bit into the characters in this story.

Between the cast interviews, the behind-the-scenes looks and the more finished looking moments, Beautiful Creatures is shaping up to be an exciting adaptation of the novel. The video gives us a better idea of who these characters are, with Lena being the apprehensive but powerful caster who's facing her sixteenth birthday, and Ridley (Rossum) appearing to embrace her dark side and bad girl nature as a Dark caster. While the romantic moments between Ethan and Lena seem intense and exciting, Rossum could very well end up being a scene-stealer in this movie, based on some of the Ridley-focused snippets that were revealed.

Beautiful Creatures arrives in theaters February 13, 2013. Watch the first trailer for Beautiful Creatures here, and find more information on the film in our Blend Film Database.
