Chris Evans Rumbles In First Footage From Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer

Summer can't get here soon enough. Yes, yes, I too am looking forward to warmer weather, BBQs, vacations and all that jazz. But more than all that, I am positively hungry for the release of Bong Joon-ho's English-language debut Snowpiercer. The Weinstein Company has acquired the film's distribution rights for the US, yet no release date has yet been announced. However, its series of captivating character posters promised "Summer 2013." And so I wait. Thankfully, io9 offers some solace, having unearthed the first footage of this promising sci-fi adventure, which can be viewed above.

Inspired by a French graphic novel called Le Transperceneige, Snowpiercer is set in a desolate future (2031 AD) where a new and terrible Ice Age has fallen on the world. Most of humanity has been wiped out by this unrelenting winter. The remaining survivors are huddled together on the titular train that hurdles through brutal landscapes of ice and endless snow. But even with mankind on the brink of extinction, class warfare stirs. In the clip above, you can spot some of this conflict as well as stars like Chris Evans, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, and Song Kang-ho.

Between this clip, the previously released concept art, and the intriguing passport pictures, Snowpiercer has mounted a remarkable marketing campaign. This dystopian world has clearly been richly realized. It's flaunting an incredible cast and its awe-inspiring director who has helmed the imaginative monster movie The Host as well as the harrowing crime drama Mother.

Weinstein Company, stop being such a tease! Announce a release date:
