Director Goes From Californication To Rio

24-- about torture and politics-- and Californication-- about sex addiction-- seem about as far from a romantic comedy as you can get. But Stephen Hopkins, who has directed episodes of both of those shows, is shifting gears a little to take on Chasing Bohemia.

The movie will be the first in a series of projects he reportedly plans to make with his newly formed GreenGo Productions, which is based in Brazil. The script for Chasing Bohemia is based on Australian Carmen Michael's book about living in Rio de Janeiro. Hopkins told Variety that he aims to use Brazil not just as a setting, and to take advantage of "an untapped pool of great directors, writers, actors and crew here.”

Chasing Bohemia is just the beginning of what Hopkins has in mind. “The plan is to partner with existing Brazilian production companies to co-produce projects, film and television, that we bring into the country, and also to build a bridge to sources of co-production financing in the U.S. and Europe."
