Discuss Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 With Spoilers And Rate It

Six hours before the midnight debut of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 here in Portland, I showed up at a theater for a screening of another movie. I exited my car and stepped into Pottermania on a scale I’ve never seen before. The outdoor shopping mall, which is home to one of the better theaters in the area, was in a state of utter bedlam. Harry Potter fans, in a variety of costumes (Death Eaters seem especially popular with the male Potter fans this year) occupied nearly every available place of real estate. They sprawled on the concrete, jammed up the alleyways, and generally seemed to be having a raucous good time.

I’ve been at big movie events before, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like this.

Fans are turning out in a big way for the last ever Harry Potter movie, and all expectations are that tonight the film will break Twilight’s $30 million screening record by a ridiculously large margin. Some theaters will start showing the movie at midnight, and then keep right on showing it through the entire night and on in to morning, as a way of accommodating the droves of Wizard-garbed muggles pounding on the doors of their theater.

It’s a good time to be a fan and odds are if you aren’t already on your way out of that first batch of midnight Deathly Hallows 2 showings you’re lining to get in one. Once you see it, you need to talk about it. Do it here.
