Is Disney Ready To Ditch Narnia?

Is Disney ready to give up on their Chronicles of Narnia franchise? That’s the story being told today by the guys over at JimHillMedia. They’ve long claimed to be Disney insiders, and while they don’t offer any specific sources to back up their claims, they say that Disney is ready to pull the plug on the whole thing after the third movie Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

What they don’t do is offer any convincing reason for why Disney might choose not to make all seven of the Narnia books into films. Apparently Disney is really hot to get their long-rumored John Carter of Mars movies going, and to do it they may drop Narnia to put their focus there. Unless of course the next two Narnia movies do such huge box office that Disney is forced to make another one. Didn’t the first one already do huge box office? And aren’t they a major film studio? Can’t they do two major film productions at once?

Basically, Jim Hill’s story boils down to the rather unbelievable notion that Disney is simply getting bored with Narnia and so they won’t keep making them. While that may actually be a pretty good idea, since the quality of the books drops precipitously after Dawn Treader, I have a hard time believing this is what’s actually going on here.
