The End Is Near In Trailer For Horror-Thriller The Day

Breakout star of the creepy indie The Last Exorcism Ashley Bell returns to horror for The Day, a post-apocalyptic thriller that follows five scrappy—as well as young and attractive—survivors over a 24 hour period. Armed with shotguns, axes, and machetes, they seem perfectly prepared for any fight that may come their way, but they are weary, hungry and in need of shelter. So when they stumble across a seemingly abandoned farmhouse, it appears their prayers have been answered—until an alarm goes of signaling a call to a fearsome family with their own ideas of how to best survive these dark times. Now, this heavily armed fivesome must do battle or die.

Bell plays one of this group, and her co-stars are equally memorable players, from Cory Hardict (Battle Los Angeles), to Shawn Ashmore (X-Men's Iceman), Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight's Tale), and Dominic Monaghan (The Lord of the Rings, Lost). But can you recognize them beneath all the grunge of a ruined world? Check out The Day's first trailer below or in hi-res at Apple:

Even from this first look, you can see a lot of references to noteworthy horror. There's flashes of Night of the Living Dead and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre mingled with a bit of Dog Soldiers. And with each of these gritty heroes hell-bent on survival, The Day seems sure to deliver gore, terror and tension. Douglas Aarniokoski, the director of Highlander: End Game helms this thriller, penned by emerging screenwriter Luke Passmore.

The Day hits theaters August 17th.
