Jason Statham has made a pretty big name for himself by never being afraid to jump into action, whether it's to keep his own heart beating in Crank or break out of jail in Death Race or elude Clive Owen in last year's Killer Elite. But in the upcoming Safe, he finds himself jumping into the fray for a cause considerably smaller than usual: a 12-year-old Chinese girl being chased by the same gangsters who killed his family years earlier.
If you've gotten a look at the trailers for Safe you know that Statham is bringing his usual intense action skills, but as a New Yorker I'm especially excited to get a look at a fight scene in which Statham takes on some of the baddies in a subway car. Get a look at that scene in particular in the brand-new 30-second TV spot we're debuting exclusively below.
You can read the official synopsis for Safe below for more info. The movie opens wide Friday, April 27.
A second-rate cage fighter on the mixed martial arts circuit, Luke Wright lives a numbing life of routine beatings and chump change…until the day he blows a rigged fight. Wanting to make an example of him, the Russian Mafia murders his family and banishes him from his life forever, leaving Luke to wander the streets of New York destitute, haunted by guilt, and tormented by the knowledge that he will always be watched, and anyone he develops a relationship with will also be killed.
