Four New Photos For The Host Show Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons And Diane Kruger

While the hype for the second part of the big screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s final Twilight book Breaking Dawn continues to wind up, things are just getting going for the author’s non-Twilight novel, which is headed into theaters next year. Last week, a new teaser trailer for The Host released, and now we have some photos to tack onto that, which include Saoirse Ronan and Max Irons.

While Twilight plays heavily on romance with the story of a teen and a vampire, The Host stands out, and arguably above the author’s popular series not only for its intriguing post-alien-apocalyptic setting, but for the relationship formed between the lead character, human Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) and the alien being (or “soul”) that inhabits her body, Wanderer.

The photos below give us a look at Ronan as Melanie, and her love interest Jared (Irons). We also get a peek at Diane Kruger, who plays the determined Seeker, the soul-inhabited woman responsible for keeping tabs on Wanderer.

The blank stare is fittingly creepy, and it looks like she’s getting the eye-check in one of the above photos.

There’s really a lot of potential for this film. Sure, it’s likely to draw much of the Twilight crowd, making The Host about as mainstream as sci-fi can get, and fans of classic alien-invasion stories may scoff at what they might consider to be the Twilightization of another genre. That would probably be unfairly generalizing it, though. Meyer has a decent story here and one that should work well for a film adaptation. Saoirse Ronan playing Melanie is an added bonus.
