Full Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer Kicks Serious Shell

"Heroes are not born. They are created. That’s what your father and I were trying to do. Create heroes."

On a half shell. So goes the new mythology of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which dropped a full trailer online today in the wake of a mind-blowing footage presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

In fact, that’s where our own Eric was when – bright and early in the morning – this pizza box arrived at his hotel room.

Pizza Box

On that box was a Web site, and a code. Using that code, we unlocked the first full trailer for Jonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Very smart marketing for a movie that seems to know exactly what its audience wants!

Speaking of what you want, here are our favorite moments from the trailer, in GIF format. Look at that sweet Turtle action!

Turtles arrive

Turtles unmasked

Turtles on a mountain

Turtles unveiled

This full trailer reflects the footage description Eric brought us from CinemaCon earlier this week, where Paramount Pictures unveiled the official first look at the Michael Bay-produced reboot. The full trailer also gives us more background information on the crime that has infested New York City, where the story takes place. We see gun-toting thugs emerging from the sewers and causing chaos. Then we hear of a plan to manifest crimefighting heroes who can clean up the streets.

So no radioactive "ooze" that turns innocent turtles into ninja warriors. This sounds more like the modern Amazing Spider-Man, created in a lab specifically for the purpose of fighting criminals. What do you think about that change to the TMNT mythology?

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie arrives in theaters on August 8. Has the trailer done a decent job on selling you on this franchise upgrade?
