Gemma Arterton Joining Jeremy Renner In Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

Back in September it was reported that stars-on-the-rise Jeremy Renner and Noomi Rapace would star together in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, an action film take that features the two abandoned children as grown-ups who have decided to take what they know and turn it into a career - namely, killing wiccans. It turns out that the story was only half true, as Jeremy Renner will indeed play Hansel, but it will be Gemma Arterton who plays his sister.
According to THR, the Clash of the Titans actress will assume the female half of the title role and the project will be made by Tommy Wirkola, who wrote and directed the Nazi/zombie horror-comedy Dead Snow. In addition to Rapace, Eva Green and Diane Kruger were also being looked at for the part, but it was Arterton who beat them out. Wirkola wants to begin shooting the film in early March, wanting to get in front of Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter over at Fox, but Renner's commitments to The Avengers might make things a bit complicated.
While I can't really explain why, I really like the pairing of Renner and Arterton. I suppose the image of them standing back-to-back while both hold giant machine guns is just a good look for them. Color me interested.
