Groot Drinks Fountain Water, Acts Incredibly Weird In Latest Guardians Of The Galaxy TV Spot

With the wait for Guardians of the Galaxy soon coming to an end, the folks at Marvel and Disney have changed gears in their marketing a bit to allow characters other than Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon some time in the spotlight. Earlier this week we saw it happen with two TV trailers that gave extra special screen time to Drax and Gamora, and now we have this brand new spot that allows the walking tree known as Groot some time to shine.

Debuting over at the official Disney website, this latest Guardians of the Galaxy footage brings two words to mind when thinking about Groot: super weird. He can only say three words ("I am Groot"); he pals around with an argumentative raccoon; he eats his own spores; and he drinks out of public fountains. What's not to love about this guy? He could very well end up stealing the movie, but that would be an honest challenge given how amazing the cast is and how evenly spread the greatest material in the trailers has been.

Now let's get back to talking about Star-Lord. Chris Pratt's character looks all kinds of rogue, awesome and hilarious in Guardians of the Galaxy, and all of that is shown off in this brand new featurette that was just released by Yahoo! UK:

While I love all the new footage seen here, it does raise a question of anachronism. If we can assume that Star-Lord is Chris Pratt's age and was taken from Earth when he was eight years old (around 1987), then how does he know about John Stamos? Is his ship, The Milano, able to pick up satellite and TV transmissions from Earth, allowing him to catch up on episodes of Full House? It's not impossible that Peter Quill would know about Stamos given that the actor best known as Uncle Jesse has been performing since 1983, but it does seem a bit off.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but set millions of miles away in the cosmos where Peter Quill comes into the possession of a mysterious orb that has attracted the attention of some seriously bad dudes. In order to help protect the galaxy, he is forced to cooperate with a gang of fellow outlaws like himself, eventually becoming the titular team. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio Del Toro all star in the film, which will be in theaters August 1st.
