Given the unsettling recent news that Sly Stone (of Sly and the Family Stone) is now homeless, a headline in The Daily Mail that reads "Homeless after Harry Potter" could mean anything. Is Luna Lovegood somehow living on the street? Has anyone checked on the whereabouts of Maggie Smith lately? Depending on how much of an animal lover you are, the actual news may be less disturbing: Berry, the black German Shepherd who played Padfoot in Harry Potter in the Prisoner of Azkaban, is in search of a new home.

As the Harry Potter faithful know, Padfoot is the animal form occasionally taken by Sirius Black, Harry Potter's godfather played by Gary Oldman. Berry played a small role in the movie, but Sirius's dog form is much more important than the books, meaning that even though you saw very little of Berry's animal acting, you probably already feel attached to him. And don't worry too much about his physical safety right now-- his former owner Paul Thompson has handed Berry over to the German Shepherd Dog Rescue, where they will take care of him until a new adoptive family steps up.

Thanks to this article I can't imagine it'll be more than a few minutes before Berry is adopted by the right people, but if you're in the area and want to try your luck, go here for more information. If you're stuck in the United States like me, you can just gaze wistfully at Berry's adorable photo and wish your cat could be more German Shepherd-like just this one.
