Hellboy 2 Update

The latest on the movie that nearly wasn't, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, comes through IGN direct from the man himself. No, not God. Not Satan either. Not even Sam Jackson. Del Toro speaks...

"We are in preproduction ... Both with Hellboy 1 and Hellboy 2, they happened right at the moment when we said, 'They're not happening. It looks like we better move on.' And at that moment something happened that made them go ahead. We have Francisco Ruiz Velasco, Wayne Barlowe, TyRuben Ellingson, [and] Mike Mignola designing creatures right now, and we have the movie being budgeted in London and in Budapest. We hope to start shooting next year."

A while back we updated you on details of a script and the impressive waves it stirred up in reviews. Details also surfaced that Doug Jones who played Abe Sapien and is currently filming Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer, would also be providong a voice performance for the role after being dubbed over in the previous Hellboy outing by Frasier's David Hyde Pierce. Whether or not that performance will actually be used however is still somewhat up in the air: "He'll get another chance and I am, let's say, 90% sure that he'll nail it. But I don't want to get the pressure off the guy yet!"

We also talked before about the possibility of a third Hellboy and how the sequel's script may leave certain doors open for a trilogy. The director had this to say: "The second one is self-contained and if we never get to do the third one there's only one element that people will have hanging where they will go, 'Oh Jesus, I wish they had done a third one.' But if not, it's fine ... If anyone listening has $80 million, we can assure you we can do a third one."

Heck, I'd do it for 80 euros. Anyone got a number for Universal?
