Idiocracy Back On The Calendar!

They're not promoting it, and they're not making it easy to find, but it seems that 20th Century Fox may have changed their mind about shelving Office Space creator Mike Judge's next movie Idiocracy.

Word came my way today from Cinema Blend's local Fox rep that despite reports last week that the film was being bumped indefinitely off the release schedule, Idiocracy will hit theaters on September 1st. Don't get too excited. It's only getting a very limited release. Small town movie lovers… you're out of luck.

You have to wonder if this is in response to all the negative publicity the studio has gotten from their decision to scrap the film. Mike Judge has been vocal about what he thinks going on: Studio interference. He's pissed at the way they've treated his film. Rather than hold on to such a hot potato, maybe Fox has simply decided to release it and get it out of their hair.

Good or not, we'll get our shot at seeing Idiocracy on September 1st. Like so many movies this year, it's not being screened for the press. With the exception of Snakes on a Plane, so far every movie that's been hidden from reviewers this year has been a piece of crap. After all, if it was any good there'd be no reason to hide it. Let's hope Idiocracy bucks that trend.
