It seemingly came out of nowhere, but suddenly the lead role in Albert Hughes' Motor City is attracting a lot of attention. When Dominic Cooper had to leave the project last week the first name that popped up was Jake Gyllenhaal, though he eventually had to turn it down due to scheduling issues. Now a new name has entered the arena.

According to Twitch, Jeremy Renner is now in the running to play the lead in the upcoming action/thriller. The plot follows a framed man who, upon being released from prison, goes on a rampage of revenge to find the person responsible for his incarceration. Gary Oldman, who previously worked with Hughes on The Book of Eli, is attached to play the villain while Amber Heard is starring as the female lead. The site says that the offer is out to Renner and that negotiations have begun, but no dotted line has been signed yet. The site points out that Renner is also currently gunning for the villain role in Ridley Scott's next film, The Counselor. If he were to get that role he would be unavailable for Motor City and Hughes would have to continue his search.

Albert Hughes really can't catch a break. First he works on developing the live-action remake of Akira for years only to have the project shut down and restarted with another director and now he can't seem to get a lead actor to stick around for his latest project. Let's hope his bad luck streak will come to an end soon and he can just continue doing his job.
