Joel McHale Joins Adam Sandler And Drew Barrymore In New Romantic Comedy

Joel McHale has been a big name on the small screen for a couple of years now, but is still working his way towards becoming a leading man on the big screen. That said, in supporting roles he has found some success, last summer playing Mila Kunis' asshole boss in Seth MacFarlane's Ted, and now he's set to perform similar duties alongside Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in their latest romantic comedy together.

News of the casting comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which adds that the project is being directed by Frank Coraci. While the film was originally titled Blended, it is currently operating without a name. The story follows a man and a woman who have a horrible first date and then find themselves stuck together at a resort with their respective children from previous marriages. Given the two stars' chemistry in The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates, however, presumably they eventually learn to fall in love with each other. According to the trade, McHale will be playing "Barrymore’s immature and skeezy ex-husband," though there's no mention of how he fits into the plot or how big the role is.

When he's not on the silver screen, the comedian can still be seen regularly on both NBC's Community and E!'s The Soup, but soon could have his big break starring alongside Robin Williams and Lauren Graham in A Friggen Christmas Miracle. In the movie, which is currently filming, McHale will be playing a father who accidentally forgets his kids' Christmas presents and is forced to go on a road trip with his own dad (Williams) to retrieve them.
