Jon Hamm Confirms He Will Not Be Playing Superman

When Christopher Reeve was first cast as Superman for Richard Donner back in the 70s, he was 26 years old. When Bryan Singer hired Brandon Routh to play the Man of Steel in Superman Returns, he was 27. Now we are on the cusp of having our third feature-film Superman be cast, and there are some out there that are still suggesting that Mad Men star Jon Hamm should play the part. The problem? The man we know best as Don Draper will be turning 40 come March, and, apparently, that's just too darn old. MTV caught up with Hamm on the red carpet for the recently-held Critics Choice Awards and when the actor was asked if there was ever anything to the rumors about him playing Superman, the actor responded, that he has spoken with director Zack Snyder - the two worked together on Sucker Punch, which is due out in March - and confirmed that it's "a young man's game" and that he's been "aged out."

This was pretty much a forgone conclusion. From everything we've been hearing about the next Man of Tomorrow movie, the film will be about a young Clark Kent trying to decide if he should even become Superman. That's not really a part that should be going to someone who is about to enter their fifth decade of existence. However, if fifteen years down the line they decide to make a film version of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns somewhere down the line, then that would be the perfect time to give Mr. Hamm a ring.
