Red-band trailers. All the “cool” kids are doing it lately, from Wanderlust to 21 Jump Street and The FP. Up next? Friends With Kids, a TIFF 2011 participant with a fantastic comedic cast that will make its way to theaters on March 9. It’s latest, red-band trailer is below, courtesy of Hulu:

With all of those Bridesmaids veterans standing around, they couldn’t just get to work on that sequel? Seriously, there’s Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Chris O’Dowd, Jon Hamm. We are one Melissa McCarthy cameo away from earning this bad boy an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

Instead, Kids focuses on writer-director Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein) and the always funny Adam Scott as best friends who try to procreate without committing to a long-term relationship. If you think that sounds sitcom-ish … well, wait until you see the trailer. The targets in this clip can be a little obvious. The sight of Ed Burns is always a red flag. And the word on Kids coming out of Toronto is that it is sweet and endearing but not quite as funny as you’d think with all of that comedic talent on staff.

Westfeldt has been very busy acting on television show like Grey’s Anatomy and 24, but puts such projects on hold to make her directorial debut here. It’s has been a long time since her 2001 indie Jessica Stein stormed the art houses. Will people remember? Can this cast lure them back to theaters for another shot?
