Kristin Chenoweth And Matthew Modine Get Tied Up In Family Weekend Trailer

Between hosting the red carpet special and singing the closing song with Seth MacFarlane during last night's Oscar broadcast, Kristin Chenoweth had a noticeable presence at the Academy Awards this weekend, so now seems like a good time to unveil the trailer for Family Weekend, Benjamin Epps' comedy, starring Chenoweth, about a teen who takes her parents hostage for the weekend.
Directed by Benjamin Epps, Family Weekend stars Olesya Rulin as a 16-year-old overachiever who decides to tie her parents up and try to bring her family back together after they miss her jump-roping competition. Chenoweth is playing the career-driven mother and Matthew Modine plays the carefree artist, who might not be contributing much to the family financially. Also among the cast is Shirley Jones, Eddie Hassell and Joey King, whose recent credits include The Dark Knight Rises and the unfortunately short-lived NBC comedy Bent.
Here's the trailer, which comes courtesy of iTunes.
On concept alone, the premise reminds me a little of House Arrest, the 1996 comedy starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Pollak and Wallace Shawn, about a bunch of kids who lock their parents in a basement in an effort to force them to sort out their issues. But it looks like the primary focus of this story will be on the one family, and its motivated teen lead's determination to get them on track.
Family Weekend is set to arrive in theaters March 29.
