Monday Movie Memo: The Best Summer Movies Still To Come

The July 4 holiday feels like the halfway point of the summer blockbuster season. And while we have enjoyed several amazing films, it's a good time to remind ourselves that the best of the season may still be to come.
Is that possible? The summer blockbuster season of 2014 already delivered memorable moviegoing experiences like X-Men: Days of Future Past, Edge of Tomorrow, 22 Jump Street, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Godzilla. In the art-house circuit, movies like Snowpiercer, Chef and the documentary Life Itself caught our collective eye.
But the months of July and August have plenty of amazing offerings, and we discuss them in the Monday Movie Memo.
When all is said and done, and we’ve closed the book on Summer 2014, will we be labeling Dawn of the Planet of the Apes as the blockbuster to beat? Will James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy have enough firepower up its sleeve to push it ahead of a Marvel pack that’s currently led by Captain America, Thor and the Avengers heroes? Or will the talking Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles deliver the pizza-loving goods that summer audiences crave?
It’s been an impressive summer so far. The Memo reminds you, however, that the season’s only half over, and the best may yet be to come! What are you most looking forward to in the second half of the summer movie season? Let us know in the comments section below.
