Oz The Great And Powerful Poster Casts Spell Over Rachel Weisz

Which witch will Rachel Weisz play?

That’s one of the many mysteries we're waiting to solve with Sam Raimi’s upcoming Oz The Great and Powerful. We only have a few more weeks left to ponder (and Disney’s doing a pretty good job of keeping a lid on most of the movie’s details). But a new poster for Weisz’s character landed on the movie’s official Facebook page, and we’re happy to share it with you below (click to see it full size!).

If you do the math, either Weisz or Mila Kunis has to grow up to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West in Raimi’s prequel to The Wizard of Oz. Clearly, the flaxen-haired Michelle Williams will become the sweet-natured Glinda, the Good Witch of the South, who eventually sets Dorothy on her path to freedom and righteousness in the Emerald City of Oz. Another witch has to end up under Dorothy’s house … in time. But that won’t happen until the end of Raimi’s movie, if in fact the bridge extends between this prequel and the original film.

The Facebook post gives a couple of hints that Weisz will become wicked. She’s dubbed Evanora on the page, called a “royal advisor” and is described as “a witch to be feared.” As in, “I’ll get you, my pretty?” Possibly. We do know that Raimi’s movie stars James Franco as a Kansas magician who is transported to the magical – and dangerous – land of Oz, where he gets swept up in a battle for the Emerald City’s fortunes. The three beauties I’ve already mentioned co-star, and the movie reaches theaters on March 8 in 2D, 3D and 3D IMAX. Pick your poison.
