Cameron Crowe's next project We Bought A Zoo is coming together quite nicely, now that he's got Matt Damon in the lead role and Scarlett Johansson to play a love interest who works at the zoo that Damon's widower father buys in the beginning of the story. Now the rest of the cast has started to fill in around them, and there's one Crowe alum joining the mix. According to Deadline, Almost Famous star Patrick Fugit has been cast, alongside Elle Fanning.

Fugit's role hasn't yet been specified, though it seems unlikely he'll play Damon's son, no matter how young the 28-year-old Fugit still appears. Fanning's character will also be a family outsider, a 13-year-old who helps tend the animals at the zoo and falls for Damon's character's son, who will be played by Colin Ford. Though Fugit has had a hard time finding any roles that capitalize on the talent he showed in Almost Famous-- his last film was the instantly forgotten Cirque du Freak-- Fanning is on a roll, starring in next month's Somewhere for Sofia Coppola and also in J.J. Abrams' forthcoming Super 8.
