See A Closeup Of The Batman v Superman Batsuit In Color

Between stills and the trailer that dropped earlier this month, we've already gotten multiple looks at Ben Affleck's Batman from Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - but they've all been somewhat obscured by low lighting and shadows. It is because of that that I think it's safe to say that this brand new image is our best look at the new Dark Knight yet:

Update: The image has been removed. Hopefully we'll have some new looks at Batman in the near future.

I honestly am challenged to come up with any real critiques of the suit. It simply looks badass. Since Tim Burton's Batman in 1989, we've seen a seemingly endless stream of black versions of the Batsuit, but this design is an absolutely awesome representation of the Caped Crusader's most iconic costume from the comics. To go even further, it's a pretty perfect live-action adaptation of the costume worn by Gotham's hero in Frank Miller's classic "The Dark Knight Returns."

Batman

The cowl, coloration and even the utility belt are fantastic in Ben Affleck's costume, but I have to admit that my eye is most drawn to the material that the grey part of the costume is made out of. While it might be easier to tell from other angles, it actually looks like the grey is created by some kind of mesh with armor underneath. If one thinks of it as chain mail, this actually makes plenty of sense, and surely would be a good defense against knife attacks. Exactly how it would stand up against a bullet is another question, but Batman isn't exactly the easiest character to shoot.

I'm personally hoping that this is just the first of a set of well-lit Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice costumes that effectively show off the details of the heroes that will soon populate the DC Cinematic Universe. I especially would love to see Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman get-up, particularly because we recently learned that the outfit will actually be red and blue and not just bronze like it was in the first look photo released last year.

Given that the debut Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer just debuted with a little less than a year before theatrical release, it's unlikely that we will get to see anything really substantial from the film officially released any time soon, but this Batfleck image is definitely a nice reminder of the potential that the blockbuster has.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be in theaters on March 25, 2016.
