See First Look At Blob In X-Men: Apocalypse

Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War get a lot of criticism for using what seems like too many characters, but no one seems to ever bring up the X-Men movies doing the same thing. X-Men: Days of Future Past had two teams of X-Men in two different timelines and X-Men: Apocalypse seems to have even more. On top of the usual line-up we’ve got new versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Angel, and Storm as well as newbies like Apocalypse and Psylocke. In addition to all these characters, we’ve just gotten a first look at another familiar mutant: Blob.

This picture comes from Bryan Singer’s Instagram account and features a victorious Angel standing over an unconscious Blob in a mutant cage fight. We’ve seen this cage fight setting before in trailers and concept art. It seems to be where Angel is introduced, seeing as how he isn’t rocking his metal wings yet. Blob is more than likely a small cameo in the movie and is probably just a neutral character to use for the scene, but it’s a nice small touch that acknowledges the X-Men canon. It looks like Blob will be that character that looks tough, but is actually there to prove that the winged character is the real tough one. There’s nothing more embarrassing than getting beat up by a pretty blond boy with angel wings.

This is our first look at the character, who I didn’t even know was in the movie, but he looks pretty Blob-y. He looks super gross and it appears that Angel gave him a real beating. It seems like Angel’s wings are sharp enough to leave cuts, but that doesn’t explain all that business going on with the lumps on the back of Blob’s head. His mutant power is essentially just being super fat, which gives him super strength, durability and impenetrable skin.

This isn’t the first time Blob has appeared in an X-Men movie. People without a selective memory may remember that his first appearance was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he was portrayed by Kevin Durand. He was a member of Team X, but then he got really fat and had a goofy boxing match with Wolverine. X-Men: Days of Future Past pretty much wiped that movie from the face of the Earth, so this version of Blob probably has a different backstory.

Everyone’s favorite mutant Blob and whole bunch of other mutants will be in X-Men: Apocalypse, which arrives in theaters May 27, 2016.
