The Spirit Is Like Wile E. Coyote

Not only can you count on Samuel L. Jackson to take on pretty much any role-- from the snarly one last weekend in Lakeview Terrace to that one where he got eaten by a shark in the middle of his big speech--but he'll say pretty much whatever he thinks, too. So when he's talking about The Spirit, you can guarantee he'll put things in terms that no one else has thought of before.

“It’s sort of Wile E. Coyote with real people. We hit each other with big things [and] we’re both kind of indestructible, so it’s funny in that way." I have to say, I never thought of Jackson's Octopus character as buying his supplies from the Acme Corp., but now that he mentions it, it does sound kind of great. "We get shot up, we get stabbed up, we just don’t die.” Yup, sounds like the dastardly Coyote to me.

Jackson also made an effort to distinguish between The Spirit and The Dark Knight, which I don't think anyone was actually comparing to begin with. "“[The Spirit] is a comic book. You can call The Dark Knight a comic book, but no, it’s a graphic novel. There’s a difference between a comic book and a graphic novel.” Sounds fine to me. I don't think anyone was clamoring for something as brutal as The Dark Knight any time soon, and as cartoony as the images from The Spirit look, you've gotta hope the filmmakers are in on the joke.
