TV Spot For Disaster Movie

The latest parody movie to come from Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the guys who brought the world Epic Movie, Date Movie and Meet the Spartans, is really breaking the mold. Instead of being a lame parody that just throws around lazy pop culture references and is a hit because it comes out in February when there’s nothing else to watch, Disaster Movie will be a lame parody that just throws around lazy pop culture references… that comes out in August. That Friedberg and Seltzer, always knowing how to shake things up.

I know we get in trouble with fans when we judge movies based on their trailers, but based on this TV spot for Disaster Movie posted by ComingSoon.net, it’s impossible not to assume it will be more of the same. There’s gratuitous violence and nudity, obvious jokes, and references to more recent movies than you can count—I spotted Hancock, The Dark Knight, The Incredible Hulk, Enchanted, Kung Fu Panda, Iron Man, Wanted and even Juno. I think there might be a 10,000 B.C. joke in there too, but I was distracted by the Amy Winehouse with fangs.

Sigh. I can’t figure out why on earth they’re releasing this movie in the summer, except that the end of August is almost as much of a dumping ground as February is, and I guess we need one last blast of stupidity before fall begins and the good movies come out of hiding. If Friedberg and Seltzer movies are your thing, you’ll probably find everything you want and more in Disaster Movie. Just don’t ask me to go to the movies with you.
