Over the last eight years a new phenomenon has developed in the world of comic book movies. Fans no longer get up from their seats when the credits begin to roll on a big budget blockbuster. Following the arrival of Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man, movies continue to try and create the coolest teasers for the futures of their franchises. Marvel set the standard for this tactic, and while the DCEU has endeavored to avoid it, FOX seems to have jumped on the bandwagon by adding a post-credits stinger to X-Men: Apocalypse.
According to a new report from ComicBook.com, it has been confirmed that there will be a post-credit scene following the main story of X-Men: Apocalypse. However, details regarding the exact nature of this teaser remain sketchy at best. Bryan Singer has remained vocal in his desire to give The Dark Phoenix Saga the love and care that it truly deserves, so that arc seems to be waiting for FOX to take another run at it. Much of the promotional material seems to hint that Apocalypse will lay the seeds for Jean Grey’s untapped power, so it seems like a logical choice for the narrative.
However, FOX could very well use this post-credits stinger to tease another movie currently on its slate. Considering the recent critical and commercial success of Deadpool, as well as the confirmed appearance of Wolverine in X-Men: Apocalypse, it remains entirely plausible that either of these characters could show up to tease a future solo outing.
Anyone looking for further details regarding the potential post-credits scene in the new reviews for X-Men: Apocalypse will find themselves sorely disappointed. It seems that FOX did not package the teaser at the end of the movie with the version that screened early for members of the press. This means that the first glimpse anyone will get of the future X-Men storyline will come when X-Men: Apocalypse finally hits theaters on May 27.
It’s difficult to say exactly what sort of post-credits scene we will get, because there are no hard and fast rules for these types of teasers. Some of them, like the one at the end of Days of Future Past, clearly set up future storylines, while others, like The Avengers’ shawarma scene, are just funny little clips that don’t necessarily tease future films.
We will keep you up to date regarding any and all updates related to X-Men: Apocalypse, as well as its post-credits scene. The reviews are in, so get excited, because on May 27 the newly rebooted X-Men universe will truly begin to take shape.
