Tom Cruise Turns To Face The Camera In New Oblivion Posters

Late last year I noticed a startling trend in the design of movie posters for films being released in 2013. For some reason, just about every single studio was making one-sheets featuring the star with his or her back to the camera while standing in front of some impressive landscape. One of these offenders was the new Tom Cruise sci-fi film Oblivion, but fortunately Universal has reversed it in the latest prints.
Rather than hiding his pretty face, Cruise is now front and center in these two new posters for the Joseph Kosinski-directed movie, which were first released over at Entertainment Weekly. One of them also includes co-star Morgan Freeman, whose character is still embedded deep in the mystery surrounding the plot. See the new posters below and head over to EW to see them full size.
Set in a time after the destruction of Earth by an alien race, the movie centers on Cruise's character Jack Harper, a disgraced soldier who is sent to down to the surface if the planet to repair weapons systems that keep it protected. But while on a mission he runs into someone and begins to discover a secret that could change all of civilization. In addition to Freeman, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Olga Kurylenko, Zoe Bell, Melissa Leo, and Andrea Riseborough co-star. Usually poster releases indicate that a new trailer is set to arrive soon, but until that happens you can watch the first trailer and see our gallery of stills in the Blend Film Database.
