These past few weeks, the internet has been buzzing about who would be the person to helm the Christopher Nolan-produced Superman reboot. The whole thing started when a shortlist of directors emerged that included names like Zack Snyder, Duncan Jones, Matt Reeves and Tony Scott. While my personal top choice from those listed was Snyder, an interview with the 300 director had been posted a few days earlier in which he said he was offered the job but turned it down. Now it looks like he changed his mind. Deadline is reporting that Snyder has officially been named as the director of the next Superman film. While details are still breaking, the site reports that he has been selected by Nolan and producer Emma Thomas to helm the project.

As more details emerge, you can be sure that we will update this post. I personally think that Snyder is a perfect choice for the job. While his weakness has always been his storytelling ability, Snyder will have Nolan and David S. Goyer in his corner this time around, two of the best storytellers working today. Combine the writing team behind The Dark Knight with the visual style of Watchmen and we could potentially have a remarkable new film on our hands.

UPDATE: Deadline has spoken with the director who has now not only confirmed the news, but has said that he will start working on it as soon as post-production on Sucker Punch is completed. He also dropped this quote, expressing his feelings about the character:

I've been a big fan of the character for a long time, he's definitely the king of all superheroes, he's the one. It's early yet, but I can tell you that what David and Chris have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I've always felt he was kind of awesome. I'll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it."

UPDATE #2: Zod will be the villain in the film; read about it here.

UPDATE #3: Brandon Routh probably won't be back as Superman; read about it here.
