Scenes get cut from films all the time for many reasons. Sometimes the run time needs to be tightened up. Sometimes pacing needs to be changed. And sometimes you wonder "just what the hell were they thinking?" James McAvoy has revealed that the original X-Men: First Class contained a fight scene that we would pay money to see right now. Professor X and Magneto team up in a full on physical brawl against a giant of a man.

The existence of the scene came out as part of an interview with McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe, co-stars in the new film Victor Frankenstein. IGN asked McAvoy how Professor X would fair against Frankenstein’s monster. The conclusion was, not so well, since the Professor’s mind manipulation likely wouldn’t work on somebody so underdeveloped. It turns out this was exactly the premise of a scene that never made it into First Class. In the scene, Xavier and Magneto find themselves in a room, without any metal, with a seven foot tall beast of a man, who’s too dumb to be affected by Professor X. With both of their powers neutralized, the two have no choice but to beat the living hell out of the guy. The fight scene culminates in victory via assistance from what we assume is some sort of hunting trophy, and a quip from McAvoy, because all fight scenes must end in one-liners.

McAvoy says the scene was cut because it was too silly. While First Class did play itself pretty straight, it wasn’t completely without humor and honestly this sounds like it falls much more into the "awesome" category for us. Professor X and Magneto, the proper gentlemen of the X-Men universe, punching and kicking a guy into submission? It’s quite possibly the first physical fight either of them has ever had. We’re pretty sure watching the scene would have been as much fun as James McAvoy apparently had filming it, never mind describing it. Check it all out below.

So what’s the verdict? Is this idea too silly, or are you waiting for the Special Edition Blu-Ray that finally adds this missing scene in? It does appear the scene was filmed, though it’s not clear how much further it made it after that. Even as a rough cut we’d love to see James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender take this guy down.
