Before You Die, You See The Ring... In 3D?

The 3D craze is giving dormant franchises an excuse to churn out another film installment. The 3D technology is remarkable, but as the sophistication of visual presentation increases, the quality of the film seems to decrease. According to Bloody Disgusting, The Ring could be next in line to receive the 3D treatment.

The Ring wound up pulling in just under $250 million worldwide and The Ring Two opened in the number one spot at the box office, so making a third film was inevitable from a financial standpoint. I bet the massive success of The Final Destination in 3D sealed the deal. When you think about it, some of the scenes in the original films might have benefited from an extra dimension.

Normally I’d say a third film would only happen if Naomi Watts was attached to reprise her role, but we’re talking 3D here. When you’ve got an element as overpowering as the third dimension, you don’t even need an A-list actress to earn a quick buck. What comes after 3D? Samara literally crawling out of your TV.
