The Avengers beat Loki and his Chitauri forces back in 2012, but of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Hulk dished out the best single defeat to the God of Mischief in that movie. After spend over 3/4’s of The Avengers manipulating the main characters, karma finally struck back at the God of Mischief in the form of Hulk beating him senseless. Next year, both Loki and Hulk will return for Thor: Ragnarok, and Tom Hiddleston hinted that their previous “encounter” will play a role in the new story, possibly by coming to blows again.
This past weekend at Wizard World Philadelphia (via Comicbook.com), Hiddleston acknowledged that Loki is still sore (mentally and perhaps physically) about what Hulk did to him, so if/when they cross paths in Thor: Ragnarok, the reunion is going to be…interesting. The actor said:
It’s no secret that the Hulk shows up in Ragnarok, and the last time Loki and Hulk were in the same room, [it] didn't go very well for Loki so, he's got a few chips on his shoulder. But yeah, it's fun, you'll see.
While Tom Hiddleston didn’t guarantee a rematch between the God of Mischief and the Green Goliath, it does sound like the two of them will, at minimum, be side eyeing one another in Thor: Ragnarok. Perhaps the reason Loki has those chips and his ego is so damaged is probably because Hulk was the first “mortal” to ever truly defeat and embarrass him. During the massive battle in New York City, Loki eventually ended up back at Stark Tower, and Hulk followed him there. Loki then started monologuing about how he won’t let Hulk intimidate him, but before he could finish, the green giant grabbed him by the legs and thrashed him around Tony Stark’s living room. Thanks to his natural Frost Giant endurance, Loki didn’t die, but it was clear that he was in a lot of pain afterwards. By the time he got back up, the Avengers were all together and ready to capture him.
While Cate Blanchett’s Hela has secured her spot as Thor: Ragnarok’s main antagonist, it remains to be seen whether Loki will be a full-on villain like in Thor or a hesitant ally like in Thor: The Dark World. On the one hand, he did help Thor in the last solo movie, but on the other hand, he faked his death and tricked his adoptive brother into thinking he was Odin. It was rumored several months ago that Loki and Hela will work together, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet. Either way, Loki has proven time and time again that he can’t be trusted, and should something happen that leads to him betraying Thor, he had best prepare himself for Hulk trying to kick his ass again.
Thor: Ragnarok storms into theaters on November 3, 2017.
