What Star Wars: Rogue One Would Look Like As A ‘90s Sitcom

So no one told you rebellion was going to be this hard? Explosions all around, the Dark Side's reaching far. It's like you're always stuck inside a trap, and the hazards that surround you and your crew are kinda crap. Yes, we're cribbing from the Friends theme for a very specific reason, as an industrious fan has taken the trailer to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and created a parody that makes Gareth Edwards' action adventure spectacle look like it's ready for NBC's Must See TV lineup. The results are interesting, and you can see them for yourself below.

You can thank CineMash for being there for you, but don't forget we're there for you too. Friends jokes aside, this clip takes the existing footage from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's most recent trailer from the Olympics, and turns it into the prelude to what could be the most interesting sitcom ever. We have to admit, any half hour comedy that credits an AT-ACT as a cast member not only sets a precedent for non-sentient objects to become a more represented group in pop culture, but it has our vote for what we're watching before whatever passes for Seinfeld in this universe.

Just imagine the stories Rogue One: A Star Wars Story could tell, if it was a Friends take off! There could be an episode where Jyn Erso accidentally misses the big heist because her invitation was mailed with her name hysterically misspelled. Maybe Imperial Director Orson Krennic could sneak into Mon Mothma's living quarters and rearrange her furniture while she's not looking. Perhaps a sneaky Capuchin monkey could become a pet to the member of the Rebellion. The possibilities are endless.

Of course, those possibilities are none of the scenarios we'll see when the first Star Wars spin-off takes to the screens this winter. Rather, the theft of the technical plans to the First Death Star are going to be the focus of the film's narrative. So if you thought the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story re-shoots were going to take the film into a wildly different direction that you've previously seen, we're glad to say that the trailer we showed you above is a fake. No need for snarky comments about Disney's hold on Gareth Edwards' intimates, as the film will look more like the actual trailer we're including below.

While Friends doesn't seem like the sitcom Rogue One: A Star Wars Story would take after, it's certainly a funny enough premise to get some laughs out of us. Not to mention, we're kind of hoping that the AT-ACT will get its own spin-off, thus making it the "Joey" of the Rogue One line-up. Good luck trying to steal a fry from an all-terrain armored cargo transport!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be there for you, on December 16th.
