While Super Bowl Sunday is largely focused on the game, the halftime show, and the commercials, the world of movies has a part to play as well. Tons of blockbusters take the Big Game as an opportunity to debut new trailers, intent on winning over the droves of people who are glued to their television. And given the astronomical cost of airing these commercials, the pressure is on to make a splash on social media and return the investment. One of the many blockbusters which will be releasing a trailer is the upcoming science fiction thriller Life, and it's pretty gloriously scary. Check it out.
Pretty awesome, right? Let's break down exactly what we're being shown in this movie, and what Life has in store for us when it finally hits theaters.
Life revolves around a group of astronauts at the International Space Station. The group's job is to experiment on a specimen from Mars which may contain the first proof of life in space. But as you can tell from the above trailer, things don't exactly go as planned. While there might be a six person crew at the space station, something tells me there won't be many of them left by the end of the runtime.
While the trailer might be brief, it shows plenty of moments that looks exciting for Life. The ad begins with Ryan Reynolds' Roy Adams presumably returning from some sort of expedition that resulted in the Mars sample. But when another one of the crew members attempts to experiment on the sample, something horrible happens.
This is followed by a bunch of brief clips of Life's action, with the crew attempting to fight off some sort of extraterrestrial threat and somehow make it back home to Earth. While we weren't shown any of the alien threat (and honestly, we shouldn't see it before it hits theaters), it seems like there's going to be plenty of bloodshed before he film concludes. I mean, just look at Jake Gyllenhaal in this shot.
For fans of the superhero genre (aka basically everyone), there's a fair amount of moments to geek out about during the trailer. Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds is one of the leading characters, and the script was actually written by Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. So while Life looks like a serious drama, I wouldn't be surprised if Ryan Reynolds' signature snark and wit were also present in the film. But if not, we'll just have to wait for the writers and Reynolds to reunite for Deadpool 2.
Life will fly into theaters on March 24th, 2017. Stay with us here at CinemaBlend for updates on the upcoming sci-fi drama.
