Will Nick Fury Be In Captain Marvel? Here’s What Samuel L. Jackson Says
Nick Fury has always represented a wild card in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Samuel L. Jackson's superspy is a flexible and malleable character, so he really can show up in any story that they need him for. With that in mind, could the cycloptic badass ever get a solo movie? According to Jackson: he's interested in doing it, but his involvement in The Avengers films (and possibly Captain Marvel) may keep that from happening. Jackson elaborated:
While Samuel L. Jackson's recent comments to We Got This Covered don't necessarily guarantee anything, they seem like a decent enough confirmation that we can reasonably expect Nick Fury to show up during the events Captain Marvel. Fury is confirmed to make an appearance in The Avengers: Infinity War next year, but after that, his future in the MCU is not quite as set in stone. That said, few details about Captain Marvel have come forward since Brie Larson was cast as the titular heroine, so the possibility that Nick Fury may appear in that film has become a genuinely compelling development.
It is also worth noting that Nick Fury is apparently not going to make an appearance in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther next year. This seems like an odd omission, because Nick Fury is the type of grounded character who could fit seamlessly into this kind of story. After all, he has played a prominent part in almost all of Captain America's arcs so far. Of course, the irony of Nick Fury not being involved in the Black Panther movie was not lost on Samuel L. Jackson -- who subsequently pointed out how odd it was that one of Marvel's only black heroes would not make an appearance in the MCU's first film fronted by the first Black Marvel superhero. Leave it to Jackson to be that candid about an issue like this.
The ultimate fate of Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become one of the most intriguing aspects of the entire franchise. The lack of any significant character deaths in recent films has many of us on edge, because it seems like a reliable indication that there is at least one coming during the Phase 3 slate. Nick Fury has managed to cheat The Grim Reaper several times in the past, but if any major heroes are set to die in the near future, he seems like a reasonable choice.
As always, CinemaBlend will bring you more information related to all of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe adventures as new details become available to us. Captain Marvel is currently slated to hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
