Action-Packed Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 Trailer Delivers Johnny Depp And The Black Pearl
With the first trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales we got introduced to our new villain. With the second, we got to see Captain Jack Sparrow again. This morning we got our third look at the pirate tale and we finally have a bit more of an understanding of what this movie is actually about. Check out the new trailer.
Finally! As somebody who loves the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie so much I tend to give the sequels a pass, I have had one single question watching all these other trailers. Where is The Black Pearl? When last we saw Captain Jack Sparrow's ship it was inside a glass bottle. Marketing material for Dead Men Tell No Tales informed us Jack would be captaining a different vessel in this film, which left us wondering whatever happened to the Pearl? Apparently, it's still in the bottle, but it's not forgotten. The boat is one of the key plot points according to the trailer. A pearl, a girl, and a Sparrow.
We also get to spend some time with the girl in question in this trailer. Kaya Scodelario is the actress playing the role of Carina Smyth. The trailers still haven't shown us why she's important, but other sources have told us that she's an astronomer searching for the Trident of Poseidon, the same artifact that Jack Sparrow needs to fight off Captain Salazar.
And speaking of Captain Salazar, the trailer's opening gives us a look at Javier Bardem as a non-ghost. We're assuming the film will open with this sequence, showing how a young Captain Jack Sparrow out-witted the man who vowed to cleanse pirates from the seas, which explains the animosity between the two. Or at least from Salazar. Jack doesn't seem to really remember.
While the Pirates of the Caribbean films have had no problem bringing in the box office, the last film On Stranger Tides, was the closest thing that the series has seen to a flop. If a return to the form of Curse of the Black Pearl is possible it seems clear that the new movie is trying to do exactly that. With only a couple of months to go before release, this is likely the last look that we'll get at the new film before it hits screens.
The trailer is calling this "The final adventure." We had certainly wondered what the long-term plans were for this franchise. While it's possible this could be just the first part of a muti-film "final adventure," we're guessing that this will, in fact, be the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Are you ready to set sail with Captain Jack Sparrow one last time?
