What The Next Three Star Wars Standalone Films May Be About

Although it was released back in December, we still haven't stopped dissecting and discussing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The first standalone film in the franchise, Rogue One shattered expectations and proved to Disney that spinoffs would make nearly as much money as the main installments. While we've known about the untitled Han Solo film for quite some time, fans are wondering what the next few standalone films would be about. And now we may have an idea of what the next three (yes three) solo movies might be: an Obi-Wan movie, a Boba Fett movie, and one aimed at young adult audiences.

A new set of rumors (via Star Wars NewsNet) has indicated the next three standalone films, and the hardcore fans should be very excited. Of course, these are wholly unconfirmed, so be sure to take this news with a grain of salt.

Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi

Fans have been asking for it, and the House of Mouse may have listened. Because an Obi-Wan Kenobi solo film may be going into development. Set in between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, the word is that Disney wants to bring Ewan McGregor back to reprise his role, and Rogue One director Gareth Edwards may have been approached to helm the project.

Additionally, SWNN reports that a Boba Fett movie is indeed coming down the pipe line. The untitled film is apparently an adventure film, revolving around Boba Fett's team of alien bounty hunters and scoundrels. Considering how little is actually shown of the fan favorite character in canon, this should be very exciting news for every kid who grew up wondering about what was under Boba Fett's mask. Presumably actor Temuera Morrison will not be asked to reprise his role from the prequel trilogy, so casting will likely be up for grabs for the character.

Boba Fett in Return of the Jedi

The third and final possible Star Wars standalone film is a bit more surprising. It will reportedly be focused on a tragic romance, aiming to ignite excitement with young adult audiences. While the space opera always included stories of love, the films aren't truly "love stories" or date night movies per say. So developing a film that is largely focused on star crossed (literally) lovers is a step in a few direction for Star Wars. Given the success of Rogue One, it looks like Disney might be getting a bit more brave with the property.

Of course, these are all still rumors at this point. But fans surely wouldn't be surprised to see an Obi-Wan and Boba Fett movie make it into Disney's schedule. They're two massively popular characters who still have quite a bit of mystery and unaccounted time associated with them. With the mythos expanding and being more fleshed out with each film, now is the perfect time for Star Wars to explore new stories.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will arrive in theaters on December 15, 2017.
