The First A Wrinkle In Time Trailer Is Trippy And Stunning, Watch It Now

It should surprise no one, but Disney is producing a ton of exciting content for the silver screen at the moment. In addition to pleasing fan boys with a constant flow of Marvel Cinematic Universe installments and Star Wars films, Disney is also in the business of adapting beloved novels for the silver screen. Case in point: the upcoming A Wrinkle in Time blockbuster, which features an all-star cast including none other than Oprah Winfrey. With the House of Mouse having its annual celebration D23 this weekend, the first teaser for the film released. And it was a doozy. Check it out.

Pretty gorgeous, right? Let's break down exactly what we're being shown, because it's quite a lot.

A Wrinkle in Time is an adaptation of the classic 1963 novel of the same name. Both follow the story of a young girl named Meg Murry, who finds a series of peculiar characters who open her mind to the possibility of time and intergalactic travel. The novel is extremely popular, and it seems like Disney is the perfect place for its silver screen adaptation, given the studio's history with stunning family friendly blockbusters.

A Wrinkle in Time features a pretty fantastic cast, which should once again come to no surprise considerings its the House of Mouse. Child actress Storm Reid will be joined by some greats of film and TV, including Oprah Winfrey as Mrs. Which, Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit, and Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Who. The cast is rounded out by Michael Pena, Zach Galifianakis, and Chris Pine, who scored another blockbuster to follow his acclaimed performance in Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman.

Along with laying out the basic plot of the film (Meg traveling through worlds in an attempt to find her father), A Wrinkle in Time's first trailer gives us brief glimpses at the gorgeous world that the protagonist will be exploring. While the trailer begins in settings that could easily be on Earth, things quickly spiral into a more fantastic world. We see a cave world filled with crystal-like stalagmites, a shack above the clouds, and one with plains that ramp up into the skies. It's all very visually fascinating, which I'm sure will be a high point once the film arrives in theaters.

Another feature of this vague yet stunning trailer is the costume, makeup, and hair design of Meg's three guides. Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, and Oprah Winfrey all look gorgeous and out of their world as their respective characters, who will no doubt have personalties as loud as their outfits.

This is a particularly significant moment for Mindy Kaling, who has done most of her professional work on the small screen. Kaling is also in the fantastic all female ensemble cast of Ocean's Eight, so it's been a pretty great year or so for the actress and writer who stole our hearts in The Office.

A Wrinkle in Time is set to arrive in theaters on March 9, 2018. We'll be sure to update you on on the project as details become public. In the meantime, check out our 2017 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
