Would You Like To See Superman With A Mustache?
Although it's just a few months away from release, Zack Snyder's Justice League film is still being worked on extensively. With Buffy and Avengers director Joss Whedon completing the project following Snyder's family tragedy, it certainly appears that extensive changes are being made, including some last minute reshoots for the titular team. We previously reported that these late reshoots will be a bit of a CGI nightmare, as Henry Cavill has already grown out a mustache for his next role. Said mustache will have to be edited out in post, but would a mustachioed Supes really be that bad? Let's break down both possibilities.
The mustache is perhaps the most polarizing form of facial hair. While some folks like Gary Oldman and Tom Selleck can pull it off, the majority of us common folk can generally look pretty creep-tastic. But hipster culture has attempted to reclaim the stache, even adding addition flairs like handlebars and perfectly waxed and sculpted mustaches into pop culture.
And speaking to Henry Cavill's portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman, it's already one of the most un-Superman like adaptations thus far. He's broody and angry, and doesn't have the joy and all-American spirit that the character normally does (just look to The CW's Supergirl for what the DCEU is missing). So considering that Cavill's Superman is already going against the grain, why not throw a pornstache on the guy?
All joking aside, the adding of some facial hair might actually help to cover up the biggest plot hole in Superman's dual identity as Clark Kent. For many years, comic book fans have poked fun at the fact that the only thing disguising Clark Kent from his true identity as the Man of Steel was a pair of glasses. It seems ridiculous that Clark's journalist peers and co-workers have never put two and two together, but having either Clark of Supes grow some facial hair that the other lacks would help us suspend our disbelief.
News of Henry Cavill's mustache has spawned endless memes of Superman rocking some choice facial hair. In fact, one fan edited together the footage from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's trailer so that Cavill's character is rocking a stache in every frame, and it's hilariously bizarre. Check it out.
How can that not make your day, honestly?
All jokes aside, we'll only have to wait a few months to see Henry Cavill reprise his role as a non-mustached Superman. Justice League will arrive in theaters on November 16th. In the meantime, you can check out our 2017 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
